Simple Historical Data
“Alun alun” is a town square which can be found in almost every Indonesian town or city. From the golden era of Indonesia’s ancient kingdoms through to the colonial period, till today, alun alun is well known as the hub of the city’s hustle and bustle where all of the major events happen, whether it be the government, business or local activities. The alun alun is typically surrounded by a fascinating mix of stores, different office blocks and exciting family entertainment.
Inspired by that context, Alun Alun Indonesia was created as a modern retail space in the heart of Jakarta, as a “Panggung Indonesia” (Stage of Indonesia), to support the development and marketing of Indonesia's culture-based products in Indonesia and abroad.
Mrs Mari Elka Pangestu & Mrs Itjih Nursalim have been the major force in spearheading the preservation of Indonesian culture and its living heritage. The First Lady of Indonesia Mrs Ani Yudhoyono inaugurated the launch of Alun Alun Indonesia in 29 October 2007.
